About Our Organization

Safe Homes is a program for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning young people between the ages of 14 and 23. Led by youth and professional staff, as well as volunteer adult advisors, we offer support, resources and leadership development in a safe and nurturing environment.

Safe Homes is a program of The Bridge of Central Massachusetts, a human services agency headquartered in Worcester. The Bridge provides compassionate, evidence-based care for people facing challenges such as mental illness, developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury, substance use disorders and other challenges. The Bridge serves 1,000 people annually, and has 600 employees and a budget of $30 million. Safe Homes is one of 50 programs offered by The Bridge and is the only program in Central Massachusetts which provides specialized services to LGBTQ youth.

In 2005, The Bridge and Safe Homes created the 'People of Courage' Awards as a means of celebrating our local community, honoring our heroes, and raising awareness about the critical needs of LGBTQ youth.
